Robert G. Tointon
Robert G. Tointon served as chairman of UNC's Board of Trustees from 1990-1996. He has been a long-time friend, advocate, and supporter of the business program at UNC and was instrumental in helping to build community support for the program at a time when national accreditation was nearing.
Mr. Tointon joined Hensel Phelps Construction Company in 1963 as a project engineer and was elected vice president in 1964. He became Hensel Phelps' president in 1975. On June 1, 1989, Mr. Tointon formed Phelps-Tointon, Inc., which owns and operates a number of manufacturing companies, including Rocky Mountain Prestress, Inc. (Denver, CO), Southern Steel Company (San Antonio, TX), and Armor Safe Technologies (Vista, CA).
Bob is a member of the Kansas State University Engineering Hall of Fame and was recognized with the Engineering Excellence Award/Outstanding Engineer in Industry Award in 1991. He was also Centennial Rotary and Greeley Style Magazine's 1990 Businessman of the Year and a Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen in 1992.
