Pillars of Performance Excellence
The impressive pillars in the entryway of Kepner Hall, the home of the Monfort College of Business, have come to symbolize the college's three pillars of performance excellence.
Pillar 1: Focus on excellence in business education
Since 1990, the Monfort College of Business has offered a single degree in Business Administration, with programs in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Finance, General Business, Management and Marketing. In 2010 it also introduced a Master in Accounting degree, which satisfies Colorado's and most other states' 150-hour requirement for licensing as a CPA.
Over successive years, our students have ranked among the best in the country, scoring in the top 5-10% on the Educational Testing Service Major Field Test in Business, which measures core business knowledge. In addition, our students experience a high rate of satisfaction, with 95% of our students saying they would recommend the College to a friend or family member.
Pillar 2: Program delivery of high-touch, wide-tech, and professional depth
Student focus is what drives our faculty, staff and administration at the Monfort College of Business.
Our high-touch program creates a learning environment, which provides personal attention and significant
interaction between students and quality faculty. Enrollments are managed so our students
enjoy small class sizes, - an average of 31 students.
Our award-winning faculty includes top professors, experienced executives and practicing business professionals, all with the same goal in mind: preparing students for a successful future in the business world. They thrive on interacting with students and helping them achieve their potential. Our professors put teaching first, and produce high-quality research that adds to the body of knowledge in their field.
Our wide-tech strategy prepares students to hit the ground running in a business environment that is becoming increasingly technical. Students work with the state-of-the-industry hardware and software they are most likely to confront in the workplace. Graduating seniors rate the college very high for enhancing their ability to use and manage technology.
Professional depth involves creating a learning environment that offers students opportunities to gain practical experience prior to graduation through exposure to executives and hands-on learning projects. The Monfort College of Business is the only program in Colorado which requires a Professional Experience Internship before graduation.
The Monfort Executive Professor Program brings nationally-known professionals to campus to work with students. Some executives teach in residence for the entire year, while others may make presentations to students and the business community on campus for a single day.
The college also offers students opportunities to learn through competing with their peers from other schools. For example, students in Finance manage a live stock portfolio of $1,000,000 from the University of Northern Colorado's Foundation. Students make all the investment decisions themselves in a real-life, sink or swim test of their abilities prior to beginning their careers as stockbrokers or investment analysts. The student team consistently performs well in competitions, and took first place in an international competition with students from 24 countries in 2011.
Pillar 3: High value
Tuition rates at the Monfort College of Business are significantly lower than the national average, yet key metrics such as student learning results, student employment rates and employer satisfaction are consistently high.. With affordable rates, small classroom sizes and personal attention from faculty, it's like getting a private school education at a public school price.
