Digital Marketing Minor
Digital marketing encompasses all marketing efforts that use an electronic device or the internet (HubSpot).
DM involves the following strategic areas:
- Marketing Research/Analytics/SEO,
- Sales, CRM/Databases,
- Integrated Marketing Communication/Advertising-Promotion/Digital Advertising/Social Media,
- Retailing/e-Commerce/Omni-Channel Marketing/Mobile Marketing.
Stronger preparation for students.
- Employer demand for digital marketing knowledge and skills continue to increase along with student interest in the subject matter for jobs and careers.
- According to a 2019 Forrester report, “digital marketing spend will reach $146 billion by 2023, growing at a 9% compound annual growth rate.”
- According to a 2019 study by McKinley Marketing Partners, “digital marketing continues to be the most sought-after skill set, with 61 percent of hiring managers reporting that they would hire for these skills in 2019.”
- In a Quick Guide to Digital Marketing Careers, “digital marketing careers have a high work-life balance and a bright future: LinkedIn reported a shortage of 230,000 people with marketing skills in the 20 largest metro areas.”
- Note: the need for digital marketing knowledge and skills reaches across to many disciplines and jobs in business, journalism, and communication. While a marketing student may want a digital marketing minor to better sell themselves for a digital marketing career, other non-marketing business or non-business students may want a digital marketing certificate to complement their careers in entrepreneur/management, tech/CIS, graphic design, or journalism.
