Computer Information Systems Minor

CIS knowledge can enhance any degree or career path

The ability to design and develop technology-based solutions can be invaluable in almost every business environment. Regardless of your major, a minor in CIS can increase your marketability in today’s competitive job market and make you more valuable to an employer. It adds a respected level of IT skills and knowledge to your arsenal of business tools.

In a CIS Minor, you’ll follow a structured course of study and also be able to choose from a variety of electives that deepen your technology knowledge.

  • Enjoy hands-on learning using state-of-the-industry hardware and software, PC labs, fully-equipped electronic classrooms and a networking lab.
  • Solve real-world problems using technical skills in database programming, networking and more.
  • Classes are small, which guarantees individualized attention from faculty and a strong focus on student projects and research.
  • Ideal for business majors.
  • Perfect for those studying biology, meteorology, sociology, geography and other sciences.

If you’d like to seek admission to a Computer Information Systems minor, and you're a business major, you must be in good academic standing with both the Monfort College of Business and the University of Northern Colorado. If you're a non-business major, you must have completed 15 credit hours with a cumulative UNC GPA of at least 2.0, and you must obtain written approval from the Department of Accounting and Computer Information Systems.

You should also have a strong understanding of computers, and be motivated to succeed.
