Semifinalists announced for tenth annual Monfort College of Business Entrepreneurial Challenge
Ten semifinalists have been announced for the tenth annual Monfort College of Business Entrepreneurial Challenge at the University of Northern Colorado. The Entrepreneurial Challenge is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to obtain coaching, advice and recommendations that will help them launch their business ideas. The event focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the increasingly competitive and rapidly changing business environment. The semi-finalists represent healthcare, education, sports and other industries. They will be presenting their business concepts on Feb. 13 at the UNC University Center.
“This year’s semifinalists are representative of the rapidly expanding entrepreneurial culture in Colorado,” said Dr. Dallas Everhart, Monfort Executive Professor and director for the Entrepreneurial Challenge. “They are meeting emerging needs for new services and products and they are examples of the Colorado lifestyle.”
The 10 semifinalists are:
Ageto Energy (Fort Collins, agetoenergy.com)
Ageto Energy simplifies the task of integrating renewable energy into power systems by reducing system complexity and enabling renewable energy to be integrated into power systems. Using the Ageto Renewable Controller (ARC), Ageto controls off-grid and behind-the-meter micro grid power systems.

Career Allies is an enterprise software solution that manages the parental leave process by partnering with companies to go beyond offering maternity and paternity leave. The platform uses a B2B SAS portal to help managers maximize retention and bolster their talent leadership pipeline.

New Frontier Systems manufactures, sells, and leases large-scale Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printers as well as manufacturing custom printers. The company also offering 3D printing and consulting services to clients requiring trouble shooting or repair of their machines, or researching 3D Printers.

whipSMARTT is a mobile app that provides technology enabling exam prep for three standardized exams using short, recommended videos that customize to the user. The technology employs the concept of micro-learning by offering potential study sessions while users are waiting in line at Starbucks, taking the train to work or walking their dog for example.
Following the semifinals, five finalists will be chosen to compete for a total of $50,000 in prize money and the opportunity to present their business plans to a panel of judges in the final competition at the UNC University Center on April 3.
First Annual Student Entrepreneurial Challenge
All UNC students with a business idea are invited to submit their application to the first annual Student Entrepreneurial Challenge. Pitch your business idea to a panel of judges at the semi-final event on February 13, 2019. Applicants will also have the opportunity to network, learn and grow by participating in workshops designed to help you deliver the perfect business pitch prior to the semi-final event. You’ll also gain experience by watching established entrepreneurs pitch their business at the semi-final event as well. Application opens November 14, 2018 and closes at noon on January 23, 2019.
