Welcome to the Monfort College of Business
The 2018-2019 academic year marks a significant milestone for the Monfort College of Business (MCB). It’s our 50th Anniversary as an academic unit here at UNC. Over those 50 years, more than 12,000 students have graduated and gone on to be successful in all kinds of business endeavors, here in Colorado and in other parts of the US as well as in variety of international locations.
Many of these alumni as well as MCB friends are professionally engaged inside and outside the classroom. This engagement between students and working professionals makes the MCB learning experience special. This takes place in many different and exciting ways. Consider a class with 30-35 students in a strategic management course interacting with a CEO, such as Dick Monfort, the owner of the Colorado Rockies. Or, you may be acting as a consultant presenting your team’s ideas and plans to a small business in conjunction with the East Colorado Small Business Development Center hosted by MCB. Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, you will learn from faculty and experienced professionals. The addition of working professionals to a great faculty provides a valuable source of practical wisdom for our students. We believe it prepares students to understand and act successfully in the workplace drawing both on theory and practice.
You might ask, “How does a MCB student stack up against their peers?” Recently, two student teams, one graduate and one undergraduate, competed in the International Business Ethics Case Competition in Boston. Each team competed in three different categories. In 5 of the 6 categories, the MCB teams took first place! The competition was stiff coming from large state public schools, private US universities and international competitors from schools in Hong Kong and Australia. And, this is only one sample of how our students perform in national and international competitions. Our students have competed successfully in other disciplines such as finance, accounting and advertising to name a few.
