Welcome to the Monfort College of Business

Welcome to the Monfort College of Business,

These are exciting times at the Monfort College of Business (MCB)!  Whether in or outside of the classroom, we have much to offer.

This year is the rollout of our first-year business class – Taking Care of Business.  This course focuses on three questions that almost every entering business student asks/ponders:

·         What is business?

·         Where am I most capable?

·         What is my path?

Our students will learn from all sides – from the faculty and the practitioners, managers and business leaders.  Exposure to business problems will come in many forms including those that will be presented through a business simulation that engages students throughout the semester.

We continue to provide our students with learning opportunities that strike the balance between theory and practice.  This may be a course that has actual clients such as our business consulting course where the clients are small businesses.  Turning theory into practice is what students do in class when they are managing over $2.4 million of UNC donor funds – acting as an investment firm.

Our efforts to expose students to the global marketplace is through our key partner schools in Italy, Germany, Czech Republic and Lithuania.  Students may select a summer or a semester abroad.  Students return with a great appreciation of business abroad and culture.  MCB subsidizes several of these programs.

A real differentiator for an MCB student is the opportunity to participate in competitions and professional conferences with financial help from MCB.  It is here that students meet and create relationships with future colleagues from other universities and begin to understand how a business professional continues professional development throughout their career.  The opportunities are throughout the entire calendar year and there are many.  Last year, 151 students participated in competitions or attended conferences; we anticipate more opportunities this year.

There is a great deal more to learn about MCB – the online MBA, the MAcc, the Professional Experience, just to name a few.  I invite you to visit us, either in person or virtually, and begin to see the MCB advantage!
