March 26, 2012: NCMC, Inc. Donates $250,000 to UNC Toward Campaign to Renovate Business Trading Room

A recent $250,000 donation by North Colorado Medical Center, Inc. kicks off a fundraising campaign to build a new Financial Education Center in the University of Northern Colorado’s Kepner Hall, home to the Monfort College of Business.  The new center will replace the existing trading room, which is utilized by the award winning Student and Foundation Fund (SAFF) class to manage $1 million of the UNC Foundation’s investments, and will be open to other students.

The renovation will include technology upgrades, a new trading room, teaching lab, multi-use conference room and an auxiliary classroom.  The interior entrance off of the main lobby on the second floor of Kepner Hall will also be renovated.

“At NCMC, Inc., we believe UNC and the Monfort College of Business are providing a great business education for future leaders in our community.  By providing funding and naming the North Colorado Medical Center Conference Room at the new Financial Education Center, NCMC, Inc. publicly states its confidence in the program and appreciation for the institution,” said Al Dominguez, president and chair of NCMC, Inc. board of directors.

SAFF students are finance majors who manage the $1 million portfolio. They utilize the trading room at the college, which provides the technology, infrastructure and opportunity to make real-world investment decisions and gain practical financial experience. Last spring, the class took first place with its fund performance in an international investment competition featuring undergraduates from 24 countries.

“We are grateful to NCMC, Inc. for their leadership in supporting this new Financial Education Center,” said Don Gudmundson, dean of the college.  “It will help our program remain competitive, achieve additional stature among business colleges, and provide an interdisciplinary approach to financial teaching and research that will facilitate collaboration.”

NCMC, Inc.’s gift is the first in the fundraising campaign to raise the estimated $900,000 for this project. Renovations will start when the capital has been raised.
